First-principles study of two-dimensional Gd2C electride

•Electrides can be applied to various fields such as battery and organic light-emitting-diode due to very low work function.
•Two-dimensional (2D) electrides with weak interlayer coupling have been synthesized to enable surface studies, and interest of the surface distribution and electronic structure of anionic electrons has been amplified.
•Recent computational studies have focused on the bulk properties. But we studied few-layer Gd2C.
