Electrochemical energy storage and conversion fields have gained much attention for the past decades since they can play an important role in realizing a sustainable energy cycle toward the net reduction of carbon emission. In this regard, the development and analysis of materials that can store and converse energy into useful forms are getting more important.
In this talk, I would introduce my recent efforts in (1) aqueous rechargeable batteries (ARBs) engaging layered double hydroxides and (2) electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) using Pd-based catalysts. In both topics, it will be emphasized how in-situ X-ray analyses play a role in understanding the fundamental properties of materials and thereby presenting the structure–property–performance relationship. The detailed structure evolution of layered double hydroxides will be introduced in the first part of this talk, followed by the Pd-hydride formation during the CO2RR process.
